10 Steps to Building a Pool & Spa
-
ENGINEERING AND BUILDING PERMITS: Plans are taken to be engineered and then are taken to the city for plan check. Best case scenario, includes the plans being approved over-the-counter (1 day). Worst case scenario is a two week plan check with corrections.
- DEMOLITION: includes existing concrete decks, patio covers, softscape. Usually takes 1-2 days tops.
-
EXCAVATION: on the day of the dig, the pool / spa is laid out and approved by the client. If we can get our largest tractor through the access area we can finish in 1-2 days. If we are forced to use our mini-bob (42"-59" access) it can take up to 4-5 days. Add an extra day if the backyard needs to be graded out. Hand digs are a minimum of one week.
-
STEEL PLACEMENT: this process takes 1-2 days to complete. It involves rebar, and a hickey-bar used to bend the steel and get it place properly.
-
PLUMBING AND EQUIPMENT INSTALLATION: 3-5 days is the norm here. Trenches are dug, piping is placed, gas run from meter to pool equipment is completed, and the pool equipment is installed. All plumbing is kept under pressure to assure no leaks.
-
ELECTRICAL RUNS: conduit is installed for a later pulling of wire. 1 day tops.
-
GUNITE / SHOTCRETE: this process usually takes about a half of day to complete. Client needs to water for 7- 14 days as the pool shell cures.
- MASONRY: this part of the pool building process is time consuming and intricate. This includes coping, veneer, tile, garden walls, rock work, etc. Time frame is anywhere from 1 week to 3 weeks depending upon scope of work.
-
DECKS: if the pool decks are concrete the deck pour usually takes about a half of day. If pavers or flagstone are the material used – could take up to a week or two.
-
PLASTER / PEBBLE: this process is a two day process with installation and acid wash.
Note: these are base guidelines, each job differs depending upon the size and scope of work.
